Historic landscape

Published by GAL Gargano on

Although the Latin writers 2000 years ago affirmed that the Gargano was covered by a large forest, today remains its nucleus, the Umbra Forest (UNESCO site), only. The anthropic activities such as the pastoral and agricultural ones, over the centuries, have shaped the landscape.

Today this land has many different amazing landscapes. If Rodi Garganico and Vico del Gargano are characterized by many citrus groves, cultivated for centuries and situated among springs and stone irrigation channels, in the South side the terraces surround the valleys, where are spectacular olive groves overlooking the sea.

The lagoon landscapes allow you to discover an unusual Gargano overlooking the Adriatic Sea and looking towards the archipelago of the Tremiti Islands.
